As the Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology in the recently formed O’Neill-Abel Government, it is with great honour on behalf of the Higher and Technical Education Sector, stakeholders – the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) which include Universities, Colleges and accredited educational institutions offering post-secondary higher and technical education, Students, Parents and Guardians, Sponsors both Corporate and Private, Research Institutions, and Development Partners – to sincerely express our warmest wishes to the People of our beautiful country, the Independent State of Papua New Guinea in its commemoration of its Independence, “a Happy 42nd Independence Anniversary.”

This day not only marks a time for celebrations, but to reflect upon how far we have come as a Country. Let us take this time to remember our fore fathers who had a vision and laid the foundation for our independence.

On this occasion, let me commend the Prime Minister Peter O’Neill for his firm leadership and stewardship. My Ministry stands committed and ready in supporting the Prime Minister and this Government in implementing the Strategies aimed at reforming, transforming and unifying the Higher Education Sector in Papua New Guinea. I am committed in working with all Stakeholders in implementing the strategies – together we can enhance the socio-economic development of PNG through sustainable Human Capital Development.
