The Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST) is calling for Expressions of Interest (EoIs) from Institutions based in Papua New Guinea that wish to be considered for upgrading as a potential TVET Skills Specialization Centre of Excellence under Phase 2 of the TVET Program.
The aim of Phase 2 is to support the diversification and growth of regional economies by facilitating quality targeted skills training and the growth of placed-based specialization, through in-country scholarships and the progressive development of five selected TVET institutions as Skills Specialization Centres of Excellence (SS CoEs) able to offer training to international standards.
As the TVET Skills Specialization Centre of Excellence concept is built around partnerships, interested providers are expected to provide as part of their EoIs evidence of partners supporting their proposals, including Provincial Governments and DDAs.
It is intended that each TVET SS CoE provide specialized technical and trades training in one or more of the following broad areas of specialization: Education & Training; Health & Safety; Tourism & Hospitality; Agriculture; Fisheries; Maritime; Arts; Sports and Media; Mining and Construction, including all areas of construction and maintenance, e.g, buildings, roads, electrical, plumbing, vehicle maintenance, metal fabrication.
Interested providers and institutions must complete the EoI template available here or at the TVET Division, Ground Floor, Mutual Rumana Building, Waigani Drive and submit their Expression of Interest by the closing date of 10 January 2018. Expressions of Interested that do not complete the template will not be considered.
Applicants that are shortlisted through the EoI process will be asked to provide additional information and undertake a quality assessment to identify key areas for improvement.
Upgrading is subject to the approval and availability of funding and to the institution committing to a number of actions. A final stage of the process, after upgrading of staff qualifications and infrastructure may lead to approval for institution to use the title ‘Skills Specialization Centre of Excellence‘.
